Volvo FH500 adblue fault codes: P204F9A – P20EE00 NOx & SCR

Put an end to Volvo FH500 adblue fault codes

Description of faults and solutions provided

The vehicle in question
It is a Volvo FH4 500, equipped with the D13K engine operating under the Euro 6 standard. That is to say equipped with a DPF, an AdBlue system and an EGR valve. It has 2 main computers to manage the treatment of exhaust gases. The ACM (gas post-treatment unit) and the EMS (engine control unit). These two boxes operate on the CANBUS network to exchange data and therefore report information such as AdBlue fault codes.

The adblue faults present on this Volvo FH500

We have 2 defects present on this truck.

The usual fault code P207F9A: (it can also be caused by other faulty elements).

Oxidation reductant fluid level too low: If the oxidation reductant fluid level is too low, it can cause insufficient reduction in NOx emissions and trigger the P207F9A error code.
Oxidation reducer fluid leak: Leaking oxidation reducer fluid can cause the fluid level to drop and cause the same problem mentioned above.
Insufficient Oxidation Reductant Fluid Quality: If the AdBlue is of poor quality or contains impurities, this can cause insufficient reduction in NOx emissions and trigger fault code P207F9A.
Oxidation reducer pressure sensor problem: This sensor is responsible for measuring the pressure of the oxidation reducer fluid, if it is not working properly or is faulty it can cause this error code to be triggered.
Oxidation reducer pressure regulating valve problem: This valve is responsible for regulating the pressure of the oxidation reducer fluid, if it is not working properly or is faulty it can cause this error code to be triggered .
Consequences of codes P207F9A & P20EE00 on the vehicle
Code P207F9A is present and active in the EMS. The engine control module. It therefore generates a message and warning light on the dashboard [Adblue in yellow/orange] concerning an incorrect Adblue quality. In addition, it significantly reduces vehicle performance. Engine torque, then speed limited to 20 km/h if no solution is provided.

The P207F9A code is also related to the P20EE00 code.

Code P20EE00 indicates that the efficiency of the SCR NOx catalyst is below the threshold. The SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalyst is used to reduce NOx emissions by using an oxidation reducer.

NOx catalyst fault diagnosed by Volvo
Knowing that the price of a complete NOx catalyst (since Volvo is changing the complete exhaust) is too high, our client will resell the truck for export. The cost is around 8000€ on an FH4. So there is another solution, the one we have brought.

What is our fault and adblue removal solution on Volvo FH4?
The solution is effective. This involves reprogramming the two modules: ACM and EMS. By programming them, we deactivate the error codes related to the gas post-treatment system. This makes it possible to deactivate the NOx commands, the injection of AdBlue, the reporting of error codes via the CAN network as far as AdBlue is concerned. For the exhaust gas filtration (FAP) part, regenerations are now non-existent, the particulate filter can be broken or eliminated. The EGR valve does not open or close.

Torque and engine power limitations are permanently removed, as well as the maximum speed of 20 km/h. It is no longer possible to have an engine performance restriction due to a fault in the emission control system. Although invisible to Mines, it is preferable to carry out this operation if you are exporting your truck to a country where the anti-pollution standards are different from Europe.
